Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle Through “Walking Works”

Schmidt Kramer team walkingThe team at Schmidt Kramer recently participated in a Walking Works program through Capital BlueCross to promote regular exercise.  

The Walking Works program gave participants who hit the goal of 50,000 steps each week a chance to have their name drawn in a raffle. The program was organized by Sherrie Mehring and took place over a six-week period, with six gift cards being awarded to raffle winners. Staff winners included: Kate Acie, Ashley Burris, Jennifer Lynn, Jeni Smoker, Laura Trimble and Trisha Wertz.

Walking is a simple, safe and effective way to get daily exercise. According to the American Heart Association, walking can reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure as much as running. Walking just 20 extra minutes every day can burn seven pounds of fat over the course of a year.
