Truck Wheel On Interstate Causes Injuries

Posted on Feb 27, 2015

The Chambersburg Public Opinion is reporting that State Police are looking for information on a truck that lost a wheel on Interstate 81, causing a crash that seriously injured two people.  Police at the Carlisle barracks said the truck was traveling south on I-81 Thursday morning around 6:30 a.m. when the truck lost a rear trailer wheel at Exit 52.

The wheel traveled into the northbound lane, striking another vehicle. The driver was knocked unconscious, causing the vehicle to accelerate and strike two other vehicles in the northbound lane.  The vehicle continued into the Old Dominion parking lot, striking two fences before hitting multiple other vehicles.

The driver and passenger, who were not identified, were flown via Life Lion to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with serious injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact state police in Carlisle.
