Police Investigate Perry County Car Accident After Two Are Flown To Hospital

A Perry County man was in critical condition Wednesday morning and a 12-year-old girl injured after a two-vehicle crash in Perry County Tuesday night, December 18, 2012.  State police at Newport say Michael F. Maguire, 43, of New Bloomfield was traveling north in the 8200 block of Spring Road in Centre Township, Perry County, when at 8:04 p.m. Tuesday he struck a pickup truck that was stopped on the side of the roadway, having run out of gas.

The driver of the pickup, Dennis Keith Berstler, 58, of Elliottsburg, and a 12-year-old girl from Middletown who was a passenger in the car, were flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Berstler was in critical condition Wednesday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Brenda Lee Berstler, 43, of Middletown, was also a passenger in the pickup truck, police said. No other injuries were reported in the crash, according to police.

New Bloomfield EMS, fire company and fire police assisted at the scene.

State police are still investigating the crash.
