Pa. Motorcyclist Killed On Route 15 In Maryland

Posted on Aug 12, 2014

In a motorcycle accident which will require investigation, a Central Pennsylvania man was killed in a serious motorcycle accident early yesterday along Rt. 15 in Maryland, just south of the Pennsylvania line.

Maryland State Police said the two-vehicle crash happened at 5:08 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 on southbound Rt. 15 at North Franklinville Road in Thurmont.  Troopers said a preliminary investigation on scene revealed that a 2006 International trash truck driven by Richard Cuther Beard, 62, of Thurmont, Md., was traveling from North Franklinville Road across the southbound lanes of Rt. 15, when a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by James Bertram Boehner, 55, of Orrtanna, Pa., struck the rear driver’s side of the trash truck.

According to state police, Boehner was pronounced dead on scene at 5:16 a.m. by Thurmont Ambulance Company. They said Beard was not injured in the crash.

TFC B. Thomas, the ACI on scene, said it did not appear that alcohol or speed were a factor in the collision.

Beard advised to state police that he did not see the motorcycle traveling southbound on Rt. 15 when he pulled from North Franklinville Road, across Rt. 15.

Although motorcyclists have the same rights, they are often harder to defend. Not only do motorcycle riders have to fight for their case, they also have to fight a reputation for being dangerous and reckless drivers.
