On July 12, 2012, the Pennsylvania Health Department did an inspection at Spring Creek Rehab in Harrisburg, and found the following nursing home violations:
- failing to promote care for residents’ dignity
- failing to ensure that doctor ordered lab tests were done in a timely manner
- failing to store, prepare and serve food under sanitary conditions
- failing to provide care and services in accordance with the plan of care
- failing to implement individualized interventions to maintain or restore normal bladder function
- failing to act upon pharmacy recommendations
- failing to prevent the potential spread of infection during tracheostomy care for resident on ventilator
When a facility has agreed to give a resident a “home,” it is their responsibility to protect that person. When a nursing home has violated the federal statutes put in place to protect seniors, the likelihood of injury increases. As reported in this survey, Spring Creek failed to order a urine test over a three day period when the doctor was concerned about a urinary tract infection. UTI can lead to serious problems and needs to be diagnosed as soon as possible. A nursing home which fails to order a needed tests risks injury to its residents.
