More travelers are expected on the Pennsylvania Turnpike this Labor Day weekend than last year’s holiday and Pennsylvania State Police plan a crack down on aggressive driving. Police patrols and enforcement efforts will be increased to ensure holiday-traveler safety. Police will also be on the lookout for drivers who are texting while driving, as well as for people not wearing their seat belts.
Roadway maintenance and construction was suspended yesterday at 3 p.m. and will last until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4. Construction activity that does not affect travel may continue behind protective barriers in some areas, which could reduce shoulder widths. However, at least two lanes in each direction will remain open, except during an emergency.
Drivers should be prepared for possible delays and congestion at interchanges during peak travel times on Friday between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Monday between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., turnpike officials said.
