Q: I am a registered voter but do not have a photo ID. Can I obtain a free ID from PennDot so that I can vote in this November's election in Pennsylvania?
Yes. Starting August 28, 2012, voters who lack verification documents needed to get a non-drivers license identification card will be able to obtain a new Department of State voter identification card for free, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.
Voters can get one by visiting a PennDOT Driver License Center. The Department of State Voter ID is valid for voting purposes only.
Residents who want this new ID will need to provide their name, address, Social Security number, proof of residency and previous name and/or address if either has changed in the past 12 months.
