On Wednesday, July 7, a 31-year-old woman died when she fell off a motorcycle traveling down Interstate 81 in East Hanover Township in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
The fatal accident occurred around 12:22 p.m. in the left southbound lane near mile marker 79.9. The woman fell from the left side of a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by a 47-year-old man from Whitehall, Pennslvania. She then skidded and rolled 40 feet.
A Dauphin County coroner pronounced the woman dead at the scene at 1:15 p.m. The driver was not wearing a helmet. The victim, who reportedly did not live in the area, had been wearing a non-approved DOD helmet. It is not known why the woman, whose named has not yet been released, fell from the motorcycle.
Police have said that no charges are anticipated against the driver, though the accident is still under investigation. The crash caused considerable traffic delays in the southbound lanes of I-81 on Wednesday. Last month, another motorcycle accident on I-81 near Lower Paxton Township claimed the life of a woman from Lower Allen Township.
