MILROY – Two women were flown via medical helicopter from Mifflin County Airport to Altoona Hospital, and one man was treated at Lewistown Hospital for minor injuries, as a result of a single-vehicle accident that occurred at about 4:25 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 322 eastbound near Milroy, Mifflin County Regional Police report.
Police said Mitchell Beck, 75, of Conshohocken, lost control of his 2001 Chevrolet, while he was in the left lane. Beck’s vehicle slid into the right lane and rolled and slid about 377 feet, where it came to rest. The other two passengers, Sheen Thompsono and her daughter, Shaena Thompsono, 30, also of Conshohocken, were transported by Milroy EMS to the Mifflin County Airport where they were flown to Altoona Hospital, according to Rob McClehahan, a respondent.
Beck was transported by FAME EMS and was treated for minor injuries at Lewistown Hospital. Officer Eric Ettinger said that Beck was “complaining about his legs and body, where his seat belt was strapped,” and he had a “small laceration” on his head. Ettinger said that Beck “probably was hurting because he was hanging from his seatbelt for almost a half an hour.”
Ettinger said that Shaena Thompsono was able to free herself from the vehicle, as she was in the backseat, while her mother, located in the passenger seat, and Beck had to be “mechanically extricated” from the vehicle.
Ettinger reported that Shaena Thompsono most likely had a broken pelvis, saying that as EMTs tried to lay her flat for treatment, she “screamed a bit.”
Ettinger reported that Beck would most likely be discharged from the hospital. Further information on the Thompsonos was not available as of press time early Friday.
