On June 6, 2011, a Turbotville woman, Beverly Tanner, was killed in a head on crash that closed a portion of Route 54 in Lewis Township, northern Northumberland County, for most of the day. The other driver, William Little was taken by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center and is listed in serious condition.
According to police, Little was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Route 54. Just before Beaver Run Road, he went off the right side of the road, then back onto it, across the eastbound lane and into the westbound lane. Troopers said Little drove directly into the path of Tanner and her 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora, and the two vehicles struck head-on in the westbound lane. Tanner was wearing a seat belt, police reported.
